We Did It . . . Again!
With the help of our generous members and donors, ASOR's fiscal year ended on a high note because we made our Annual Fund goal . . . again! Thank you to everyone who contributed to this accomplishment. The staff is still reviewing the draft Fiscal Year 2022 Honor Roll for errors. Please look over the Honor Roll here to make sure your name is listed correctly. If there are any errors, please e-mail ASOR.

ASOR CHI Tutorials
ASOR CHI is excited to announce a collection of free online tutorials aimed to help cultural heritage specialists perform surveys and condition assessments using open source tools and software, including QGIS, KoboToolbox, LibreCAD, and MetaShap. These tutorials are available in English, French, and Arabic on the ASOR website. Check out this great new online resource here.

 
Submitted Your Poster Proposal Yet?
ASOR invites members to submit poster proposals for both the virtual (online, Oct. 19-23) and the in-person (Boston, Nov. 16-19) components of the 2022 Annual Meeting. The proposal deadline is August 1, less than a month away. Use the online Poster Proposal Form to submit your poster abstract of 250 words or less to either or both meeting components. Read the Call for Posters to learn more about the 2022 Poster Session and guidelines for participating before you submit your abstract.

New ASOR Award for Engagement & Outreach
ASOR's Honors and Awards Committee is excited to announce a new service award for Community Engagement and Public Outreach. This award recognizes individuals, teams, and organizations who have initiated outstanding educational, informational, or practical projects with the goal of making subjects and information about the ancient world accessible to wider (particularly non-academic) audiences. The deadline for nominations is September 9, 2022 and award winners will be announced at the 2022 Annual Meeting. Read more about how to nominate someone for ASOR Service Awards

Summer Hours at the James F. Strange Center
The staff of the James F. Strange Center will be holding summer hours on Fridays until Labor Day, September 5. If you need to call the office, please do so during normal business hours M-Th or before 12:30pm EDT on Fridays. We look forward to speaking with you!

Director of the Oriental Institute (OI) Position Open
The OI is headed by its Director who is appointed by the President and the Provost of the University. It is the Director’s responsibility to oversee all OI activities, to foster and promote its work at home and in the field, and to be active in assuring its economic stability and growth. Reporting to the University of Chicago Provost, the Director will develop a strong vision for the future of the OI, maintain and build on funding sources to aid the Institute’s mission, and oversee its $11 million operating budget. The Director will be a leading scholar who holds a PhD or equivalent degree in a field relevant to the OI’s areas of expertise and will be appointed with tenure. The Director will serve an initial five-year term, renewable following a standard review. Apply here.

Postdoctoral Researcher Tablet Collection at OI Position Open
The OI and the Dept. of Near Eastern Languages and Civilizations of the U. of Chicago invite applications for a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Rank of Instructor at the Tablet Collection of the OI, expected start date of October 1, 2022, or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a 24-month, non-renewable appointment. Applicants must have completed all requirements for the PhD in Cuneiform Studies (Assyriology, Sumeroloy, or a related area) by the start date of the appointment. Applicants should have an active research agenda in their area of specialization. Previous teaching experience at the University level is desirable. Applicants with experience in cuneiform epigraphy and digitization methods are especially encouraged to apply. Apply here.
