| 2022 Call for Session & Workshop Proposals |
ASOR’s 2022 Annual Meeting will be held November 16-19 in Boston. It will be preceded by a virtual component, October 19-23. ASOR members are invited to submit new session and workshop proposals for either or both components by January 15. The proposal form, important information, and a list of sessions and workshops that have already been approved can be found on the ASOR website here.

ASOR's Publication Committee seeks new members to serve three-year terms. The Publications Committee makes recommendations regarding ASOR's journals and books. | FOA Webinar: Rachel Hallote & American Biblical Archaeology on Jan. 20 |
Register for our next webinar on Thursday, January 20, at 7:00 pm EST, featuring Rachel Hallote's talk on "The Not-So-Innocents Abroad: The Beginnings of American Biblical Archeology." This webinar will redeem the image of American archaeological exploration in the Holy Land, and put it into its own political, religious and academic contexts. Not only were American archaeologists active in nineteenth century Palestine, but they were innovative in their techniques, and applied a practical, no-nonsense approach to their endeavors. From the founding of the American Palestine Exploration Society to the famous Samaria Expedition of 1908, we will explore the considerable influence of American scholars on the archaeology of the Holy Land. | 2021 Virtual Annual Meeting Recap |
The virtual component of ASOR’s 2021 Annual Meeting took place in December with nearly 1,100 registrants from 41 countries and six continents! There were over 400 presentations in 95 sessions and workshops on the virtual schedule. Registered attendees can revisit all the recorded content through June of 2022, and those who haven’t registered can purchase access to ASOR’s Online Library. | FOA Webinar Symposium: Tel Rehov on Feb. 10 |

Friends of ASOR present a webinar symposium on February 10 from 12:00pm to 4:00pm EST, “Tel Rehov: A Major Bronze and Iron Age City in the Jordan Valley,” featuring Prof. Amihai Mazar, Dr. Nava Panitz-Cohen, Prof. Nota Kourou, Prof. Naama Yahalom-Mack, and Prof. Robert Mullins. This special event will showcase the newly published findings from the site of Tel Rehov in Israel. The program will include 7 unique lectures covering such topics as the primary results from the site, the publication of the excavations, the Iron Age apiary, Tel Rehov in its Biblical historical context, Greek pottery from the site, the 8th century BCE Assyrian conquest, and metal-working. Each 20 minute lecture will be followed by Q&A with the audience and discussion among these distinguished panelists. | Summer Stipend Report: Olivia Golubowski |
During summer 2021, Olivia Golubowski traded a trowel for GIS tools for her project using material from Tel Arad, Israel. Using ArcMap and QGIS, Olivia georectified scans of plans from the site with aerial photos. Olivia's work was made possible by a 2021 Platt Summer Stipend. | ACOR Fellowships Available for 2022-2023 |
Established in 1968, ACOR's mission is to advance knowledge of Jordan, past and present. Their programs and services include an extensive library and archive, fellowship and scholarship programs, information services, and residential facilities. ACOR has 50+ years of experience in cultural heritage preservation and management and is increasingly a hub of contemporary humanities research and digital humanities in the Middle East. Competitive grants are available at all education levels for scholars conducting research in or on Jordan. Deadline for most applications is February 1, 2022. Further information is available here.
