FOA Webinar: David, Solomon, and Rehoboam’s Kingdom on Sept. 19
The next webinar in our monthly series is on September 19, at 4:30 pm EDT, featuring Prof. Yosef Garfinkel and "David, Solomon, and Rehoboam’s Kingdom—The Archaeological Evidence." Since 2007, four sites in the Judean Shephelah were investigated: Khirbet Qeiyafa, Khirbet el-Ra‘i, Socoh, and Lachish. The data collected from Khirbet Qeiyafa and Khirbet el-Ra‘i provided sweeping and cutting-edge data on the early part of the 10th century BCE, the time of King David. New evidence from Lachish forces us to reconsider theories about the date of its fortification by King Rehoboam. Join us for this deep dive into some of the most exciting new finds at sites across the biblical kingdom of Judah. Register and pay here. Price is $5 for ASOR members and $10 for non-members. All proceeds will support membership scholarships and online resources.

Libyan Update: Protecting Cultural Heritage Around Cyrene Week 2
This report is part of an ongoing series following the work of ASOR's colleagues in Libya at the World Heritage Site of Cyrene, and made possible through the US State Department’s Ambassadors Fund for Cultural Preservation. During the second week of the project, some 23 main sites and a number of subsites were visited, documented, and assessed, some of which had not been documented previously. The team primarily documented agricultural and industrial settlements associated with cemeteries. The oldest of these sites date back to the Hellenistic period, the later Turkish, and more recent Italian periods. FOA Webinar: Textual & Visual Portrayals of Israel’s God on August 29
The next webinar in our monthly series is on August 29, at 7:30 pm EDT, featuring Prof. Theodore Lewis and "From Standing Stones to Sacred Emptiness: Textual and Visual Portrayals of Israel's God." Portrayals of divinity are incredibly complex as they are culturally, sociologically, politically and theologically contingent. Asking the simple question about how ancient Israelites and Judeans portrayed God (i.e. El and Yahweh) turns into a historical puzzle, interacting with a wide variety of ancient writers and artisans on how they conceptualized divinity. This webinar will sift through both visual (archaeological) and textual narratives as they have diverse functions and/or audiences and reflect different kinds of literacies. Register and pay here. Price is $5 for ASOR members and $10 for non-members. All proceeds will support membership scholarships and online resources.
