Meet the 2020 Board of Trustees Nominees
The ASOR Trustee Nominations Committee has selected three highly qualified nominees for election for two open ASOR Board positions as Membership-elected Trustees. Institutional Representatives will vote on two unopposed candidates for two openings as Institutionally-elected Trustees. The elections will be conducted via online ballot. Voting begins later today, and all members will receive a ballot by email. The deadline for returning ballots is noon ET, on Nov. 9. Read more . . .

Update on ASOR's Name—Virtual Town Hall Meetings
As mentioned in the earlier “Call to Action on ASOR’s Name,” ASOR President Sharon Herbert will convene two Virtual Town Hall Meetings to discuss ASOR’s name and the next steps in our process to remove “Oriental.” The two virtual meetings (10/22 at 1pm ET and 10/25 at 4pm ET) will take place over Zoom Webinar. Eric Meyers and Early Synagogues on Dec. 13
Register now for our next webinar on December 13 at 7:30pm EST, featuring Dr. Eric Meyers and "Early Synagogues, Jesus, and Galilee—A Jewish Perspective." An expert in Judaic studies, Dr. Meyers will discuss how archaeological work in Galilee over the past generation and a half has demonstrated that this region was overwhelmingly Jewish in the first century BCE and CE. In this lecture, Prof. Eric Meyers will take us on a journey across the Holy Land to discover how Judaism, and its places of worship, have evolved over the centuries. Register and pay here. Price is $5 for ASOR members and $10 for non-members. All proceeds will help ASOR respond to COVID-19 by funding membership scholarships and virtual resources.

ASOR Session Chair Openings
ASOR invites applications from members to fill Session Chair openings for the following ASOR Standing Sessions: Archaeology and Biblical Studies; Archaeology of Cyprus; Archaeology of Iran; Archaeology of Islamic Society; and Archaeology of the Near East: Bronze and Iron Ages. Session Chairs volunteer to serve one term (three years, 2021-2023) with the possibility of renewing for a second term. The application is simple and can be completed online here. Awardee Spotlight: Birgitta Lindros Wohl
At the 2019 ASOR Annual Meeting in San Diego, Birgitta Lindros Wohl was awarded the W. F. Albright Award. This award honors an individual who has shown special support or made outstanding service contributions to one of the overseas centers, ACOR, AIAR, or CAARI. Read more . . .


Applications for ACOR Fellowships 2021-2022 are now live!
With funding available for scholars at all educational levels, ACOR is excited to announce the launch of our next round of competitive grants for scholar conducting research in or on Jordan. These include the ACOR National Endowment for the Humanities Postdoctoral Award, the ACOR-CAORC Predoctoral Award, and many other grants at the undergraduate, graduate, and postgraduate levels. Friday Deadline to Apply for the 2020 Student Paper Award
ASOR is still accepting applications for the Student Paper Award, due this Friday, October 23. This award is conferred upon the author(s) of a paper presented during the Annual Meeting that conveys the results of a study about ancient Near Eastern and wider Mediterranean societies in a clear, understandable and convincing fashion. The first author and presenter of the paper must be a registered student at the time of presentation in order to be eligible for consideration for this award. Read more . . .


ASOR Mourns The Passing Of Norma Kershaw
ASOR mourns the passing of long-time member, Norma Kershaw, and we share our condolences with the Kershaw family. Norma died peacefully at home on September 14 at age 95.
