| Virtual Annual Meeting Poster Proposals—Due TODAY |
Time is running out to share your research as part of ASOR’s 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting. This is a unique opportunity to participate in ASOR’s academic program with a virtual poster and online/synchronous discussion. Poster abstracts may be submitted according to the 2020 Virtual Poster Session guidelines. If you miss the September 1 deadline, you may still submit a poster abstract with a $25 late fee until September 15.

| Gender & Religion In Ancient Israel |
The second webinar in our monthly series will be held on September 13, at 7:30pm EDT, featuring Dr. Susan Ackerman. An expert in the study of gender and religion in ancient Israel, Prof. Ackerman invites us to explore and question our own assumptions about gender roles in the ancient world. To register and pay, click here. Price is $5 for ASOR members and $10 for non-members. All proceeds will help ASOR respond to COVID-19 by funding membership scholarships and virtual resources.

| P.E. MacAllister Fellowship Report: Avary Taylor |
Avary Taylor was awarded a 2019 P.E. MacAllister Fellowship for participation in excavations at Tell al-Hiba (ancient Lagash) in southern Iraq. Taylor, a PhD student at Johns Hopkins University, took part in excavation, geophysical survey, and ceramics analysis at Lagash, one of the earliest Sumerian city-states. Read more . . .

| Black Scholars Matter Initiative – Scholarship Opportunity |
|
ASOR is excited to share that we are partnering with Humans Against Poor Scholarship (HAPS) on a grant opportunity for undergraduate Black students contemplating further study of the ancient Near East. Winners of the BSM grant who attend ASOR’s Annual Meeting will receive one year’s conference registration and a two-year student membership, as well as $1,000 toward conference expenses. In addition, successful applicants are paired with a mentor during the conference. This initiative begins in 2021, but you can contact ASOR directly about scholarships to participate in this year’s virtual meeting. To learn more about the BSM grant, click here. |
