Priestesses with Dr. Susan Ackerman on Sept. 13
Friends of ASOR is excited to announce the second webinar in our monthly series on September 13, at 7:30pm EDT, featuring Dr. Susan Ackerman. An expert in the study of gender and religion in ancient Israel, Prof. Ackerman invites us to explore and question our own assumptions about gender roles in the ancient world. To register and pay, click here. Price is $5 for ASOR members and $10 for non-members. All proceeds will help ASOR respond to COVID-19 by funding membership scholarships and virtual resources.

Resources for K-12 Educators
Over the past couple of months, the ASOR staff have been compiling resources to help K-12 educators as they adapt to online teaching and plan their classes for the fall. These lesson plans, activities, and resources can now be found on the ASOR website! Stay tuned for postsecondary resources in the upcoming weeks. REMINDER: Poster Proposals—Due September 1
The virtual format of ASOR’s 2020 Annual Meeting will provide even more opportunities for Poster Session participation! The deadline poster proposals is September 1. The virtual Poster Session is an important part of the academic program and will consist of an online poster gallery as well as synchronous discussion. You can even submit your poster as an interactive PDF this year! Learn more about the virtual Poster Session here.

2020 Virtual Annual Meeting Registration
The 2020 Virtual Annual Meeting, originally scheduled for Boston, will now take place virtually over several weekends in November. The ASOR staff and Program Committee are reworking our exciting academic program into a virtual format that can deliver the full content of our record-breaking number of submissions in a manner that will serve our community most effectively. Call For 2020 Awards & Honors Nominations
Honor an ASOR member who has made notable contributions to the organization or field or recognize an author who has recently published an outstanding book by nominating them for an award. Submit your nominations for service and book awards by visiting the Honors and Awards page here.
Black Scholars Matter Initiative – Scholarship Opportunity
ASOR is excited to share that we are partnering with Humans Against Poor Scholarship (HAPS) on a grant opportunity for undergraduate Black students contemplating further study of the ancient Near East. Winners of the BSM grant who attend ASOR’s Annual Meeting will receive one year’s conference registration and a two-year student membership, as well as $1,000 toward conference expenses. In addition, successful applicants are paired with a mentor during the conference. This initiative begins in 2021, but you can contact ASOR directly about scholarships to participate in this year’s virtual meeting. To learn more about the BSM grant, click here.
Honors & Awards Spotlight: Randall Younker
At the 2019 ASOR Annual Meeting in San Diego, Randall (Randy) Younker was awarded the ASOR Membership Service Award. This award recognizes individuals who have made special contributions on behalf of the ASOR membership, through committee, editorial, or office services. Randall (Randy) Younker (Andrews University) served as the chair of the Membership and Outreach Committee for six years (spanning two three-year terms), from 2014 through 2019. Read more . . .


Call For ASOR-ARS Editor Nominations
The Committee for Publications of ASOR announces a call for the nominations of the editor/s of ASOR’s Archaeological Report (ASOR-ARS) Series. The term of office for the position is three years, beginning January 1, 2021 and is eligible to be renewed one time. Review of nominations will begin September 1, 2020 and continue until the position is filled. This is a voluntary and unpaid position. Read More . . ..
