| Museums in a Suitcase Foster Understanding in Libya |
Museums play a dynamic role as places of learning and inspiration. In Libya, museums have been largely off-limits to the public since the revolution of 2011. Utilizing funding from the U.S. Department of State, ASOR is partnering with the Libyan Department of Antiquities and the Boy Scouts and Girl Guides of Libya to create resources and programming to help fill the void caused by the temporary closing of museums. We are developing cultural heritage outreach events to provide education and stewardship activities that promote understanding and counteract violent extremism. Read more . . .

The NEH Public Scholars program supports the creation of well-researched nonfiction books in the humanities written for the broad public. It does so by offering grants to individual authors for research, writing, travel, and other activities leading to publication. The program is intended to: a) encourage non-academic writers to deepen their engagement with the humanities by strengthening the research underlying their books; and b) encourage academic writers in the humanities to communicate the significance of their research to the broadest possible range of readers.
