The Status of UNESCO World Heritage Site Leptis Magna
In April 2017, ASOR CHI began covering the ongoing conflict in Libya as part of a new cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of State. Libya is home to five UNESCO World Heritage Sites as well as a dense concentration of other archaeological sites and historic cities that enrich our understanding of the ways in which humans have lived and thrived in North Africa from the Paleolithic to the present day. Annual Meeting Poster Deadline: Today!
Don't miss today's deadline to submit a poster abstract for the Projects on Parade Poster Session or the Digital Archaeology Demo Showcase at the 2017 ASOR Annual Meeting. Posters are an ideal format for presenting archaeological projects, a technical aspect of your research, a complex graphic and/or quantitative data, or a spectacular find from the field season. Visit the Projects on Parade Poster Session page for more information and instructions on how to submit a poster abstract. If you miss today's deadline, poster abstracts may still be submitted via the online abstract management system until August 15th, however, a $25 fee will apply to abstracts received after August 1st. Please contact Arlene Press if you have any questions.
Mosul Post-ISIL Heritage Destruction and the Future of the City
ASOR CHI has monitored recapturing operations in Mosul and has documented damage to dozens of cultural heritage sites. In all, ASOR CHI has recorded damage to 102 individual sites in Mosul, and the number is rising as more photographs and videos are released from liberated regions. ASOR Extends Grace Period Before Membership Rates Increase
As announced in , and in News@ASOR on March 7, ASOR reduced membership rates for Undergraduates, Graduates, and Early Career members effective February 15, 2017. In a membership survey conducted last year, our more senior members expressed a willingness to pay a somewhat higher rate to support the aforementioned reductions. In our announcements, we stated that rates for Regular, Retired, and Sustaining Memberships would increase between $5 and $10 on July 1, 2017. In an effort to give our members more notice, we have extended the grace period to August 15 before the new rates take effect. To renew or join at the previous, lower rates, please renew online, call the ASOR office, or email us.
