| 4 Ways You Can Help Protect Cultural Heritage |
Cultural heritage plays an active role in people’s everyday lives. It is a way for people to express themselves, and it also connects us. | Remembrance: George E. Mendenhall |
|
ASOR mourns the passing of Prof. George Mendenhall of the University of Michigan. Prof. Mendenhall was one of ASOR’s most generous supporters and our longest continuously serving member (since the 1930’s). A veteran of the Pacific theater in World War II and a student of Prof. William F. Albright, Mendenhall was one of the the most important scholars of his generation. He passed away just eight days shy of his 100th birthday. He was the Annual Professor at the American School in Jerusalem in 1955-56; he served as the Director of the School in 1965-66, and thereafter served for several years on the Jerusalem School Committee, until he joined the Amman Committee in 1971. He served as director of the American Center for Oriental Research in Amman in Spring 1975. Click here for a full remembrance. |
