ASOR Strategic Planning, 2016-2020
For the past five years (2011-2015), ASOR has been well guided by the Strategic Plan adopted by its Board of Trustees in April 2010. But ASOR is a constant work in progress, so there is always more to be done. We are pleased to share our penultimate draft of this plan, and we invite all of our members to read it and to provide us with your feedback. Read more...

Breaking Iconoclasm: Destroying and Rebuilding Past and Present Heritage (videos)
The Harvard University Standing Committee on Archaeology (SCA) is a multidisciplinary group of scholars appointed to promote the teaching of archaeology at Harvard and advance knowledge of archaeological activity, research, fieldwork, and techniques in the many and varied fields where archaeology is employed as an approach to past cultures and histories around the world. On December 2, 2015, the SCA organized a roundtable discussion exploring interdisciplinary approaches to iconoclasm. Taking the recent events in Syria and Iraq as a starting point, a roundtable of specialists from a wide range of disciplines and backgrounds (including archaeology, museum studies, digital humanities, history, and journalism) will discuss the various origins and expressions of iconoclasm from multiple perspectives and within varying historical contexts. Read more...

Eulogy for Trude Dothan from the W. F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research
The following is from a eulogy written by Sy Gitin for Trude Dothan: "I suppose when most of us think of Trude Dothan, we remember her many contributions to the field of Israeli archaeology, especially her excavations at Athienou, Deir el-Balaḥ, and Tel Miqne-Ekron, and her ground-breaking publications on the Philistines. As for me, it’s Trude’s more personal nature that I recall, her friendship, her ability to relate to people, and her sense of humor." Read more...
