| AIA and ASOR Announce NEH Chairman's Grant |
AIA and ASOR have jointly received a Chairman’s Grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities (NEH) to support a two-day invitational summit in Washington, D.C., on December 10–11, 2015. During the summit, representatives from organizations engaged in collecting data on the cultural heritage of Syria will agree upon ways to cooperate and reduce duplication of effort. Read more...

| Funding for ASOR's Cultural Heritage Initiatives Extended and Increased |
The American Schools of Oriental Research (ASOR) is pleased to announce that, with a $900,000 extension to our previous one-year cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of State, the ASOR Syrian Heritage Initiative team will be able to continue its work of comprehensively documenting the current condition of cultural heritage sites in Syria and portions of Iraq and to assess future restoration, preservation, and protection needs. Now known as ASOR’s Cultural Heritage Initiatives—Planning for Safeguarding Heritage Sites in Syria and Iraq, this program will continue to raise global awareness of the threats to cultural heritage while also implementing future projects and providing immediate assistance within the region. In addition to 92 academic sessions and numerous business meetings, the 2015 ASOR Annual Meeting is host to a number of special events, dinners, and receptions. | ASOR Cultural Heritage Initiatives Symposium |
ASOR’s Cultural Heritage Initiatives will be hosting a free, public symposium following the conclusion of the 2015 ASOR Annual Meeting on Sunday, November 22 at the InterContinental Buckhead-Atlanta. We hope that ASOR attendees will stay through Sunday to participate in this exciting and important event. ASOR invites the general public and anyone attending the BAS, SBL, or other conferences to attend. The goals of the symposium are to raise awareness about the challenges of cultural heritage preservation and to provide a forum where heritage specialists and the public can engage in discussions about ASOR’s Cultural Heritage Initiatives.
