| Save the Date: Syrian Heritage Initiative Symposium |
|
ASOR's Syrian Heritage Initiative (SHI), will be hosting a public Symposium at the 2014 ASOR Annual Meeting on Sunday, November 23 at the Westin San Diego hotel. The goals of the SHI Symposium are to raise awareness about the challenges facing Syrian cultural heritage preservation and to provide a forum where heritage specialists and the public can engage in discussions about the project. | ASOR Staff Welcomes Kurt Prescott |
Kurt Prescott joined the full-time staff of ASOR this past July as an Administrative Assistant. In addition to coordinating the academic programming for ASOR’s Annual Meeting, Kurt will also be providing logistical and research support for ASOR’s Syrian Heritage Initiative. Kurt recently graduated from Harvard Divinity School with an M.T.S. in Comparative Studies, where his work focused on the religious traditions of both the ancient Near East and ancient Mesoamerica, among others. This August, Arlene Press joined the ASOR staff as the Interim Manager of Meetings, responsible for Annual Meeting logistics, special programs, regional tours, and future projects as part of ASOR’s continued growth. Arlene comes to us with nine years of experience in educational program coordination, holding previous positions at Massachusetts General Hospital and the Walton College of Business, University of Arkansas. | WorldMap – Geospatial Visualization and the Digital Humanities |
By: Jeff Howry, Ph.D., Research Associate, Semitic Museum WorldMap is a collaborative, interactive web-based mapping platform, not just a static presentation of map data. Users can contribute data to build their own maps or add their own data layers using any of 13 different base maps provided by Bing, Google, ESRI, OpenStreetMap and others. Users can comment or annotate places on existing maps that they or others create. | ASOR Seeks Your Input on the "Ethics Policy" |
|
In 2010, Timothy Harrison, then ASOR President, saw the need for a single, comprehensive document that would provide clear guidelines, consistent with ASOR’s Mission and Strategic Plan, to all those involved in furthering ASOR’s mission. To accomplish this goal, President Harrison created an ad hoc Ethics Working Group that was charged with seeking input in order to prepare a draft holistic professional conduct policy for ASOR. This year's Annual Meeting in San Diego is fast approaching. Amidst the excitement and planning, we have a few deadlines to remind you about:
-The Super-Saver registration deadline is extended to September 17th, 2014!
-Deadline for ASOR Awards Nominations: (book awards) September 15th, 2014; (non-book awards) October 1st, 2014
-Deadline for Cancellations with Refund: September 15th, 2014

| Committee of Publications Seeks Editors for ARS and AASOR - Deadline Tomorrow! |
|
The call for nominations for Editor of the ASOR Annual (AASOR) and Editor of the ASOR Archaeological Report (ASOR-ARS) Series put forth by the Committee for Publications of the American Schools of Oriental Research has extended the deadline to next Friday! The term of office for each position is three years, both beginning January 1, 2015. Each position is eligible to be renewed once. The Committee for Publications seeks to send these nominations to the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees no later than September 12, 2014. Read more... |
