2014 Annual Meeting Plenary Address - Jason Ur
At the 2014 Annual Meeting in San Diego this November, Jason Ur will give the Plenary Address on "The Renaissance of Archaeology in Iraq and its Kurdistan Region." Jason Ur is the John L. Loeb Associate Professor of the Social Sciences in the Department of Anthropology at Harvard University. He specializes in early urbanism, landscape archaeology, and remote sensing, particularly the use of declassified US intelligence imagery. He has directed field surveys in Syria, Iraq, Turkey, and Iran. Read more...
March Fellowship Madness Report by ASOR President
Every March, when the NCAA basketball tournament swings into gear, we at ASOR do too, with our annual “March Fellowship Madness” fundraising drive. Our goal is always the same: to augment the funding we have available from our various endowed scholarship funds with just a little more cash, in order to help send a few more students to the Middle East to participate in archaeological excavations. Executive Committee & Board of Trustees Meeting Report by ASOR President
This past weekend, May 2-3, the ASOR Executive Committee and Board of Trustees met, as these bodies do every spring, to engage in discussions and undertake items of business that have come forward since the Executive Committee’s and Board’s gatherings at the November Annual Meeting. The major item on the agenda for these spring meetings is always the budget, both a review of the budget for the current fiscal year, which will come to an end on June 30, and approving the budget for the upcoming fiscal year, which starts on July 1.

$2,500 Travel Prizes for Papers to Be Presented at ASOR/SBL
If you're presenting a paper at this year's Annual Meeting in San Diego, there may be a way to make your trip a little cheaper! The Biblical Archaeology Society is offering two prizes of $2,500 each (one awarded to a young scholar and another to an emeritus scholar) for travel expenses to present an academic paper at the 2014 Annual Meeting of ASOR or the 2014 Annual Meeting of the Society of Biblical Literature (SBL). Introducing the ASOR Junior Scholars Committee
You might be wondering “Who is a Junior Scholar?” Well, unless you are a tenured faculty member, then you are a Junior Scholar! A second question might be what is “new” about this group? While the Junior Scholars Committee is one of ASOR’s newest standing committees, the group was started in 2004 to organize events at the Annual Meeting for students and early career professionals. Since that time, Junior Scholars has hosted over 10 Annual Meeting luncheons on a variety of topics, such as overseas institutes, post-docs, and publications.
