| New Resource: "Women of ASOR" Map |
During the past year, ASOR’s publications and membership team, Kevin Cooney and especially Aviva Cormier, created a resource map for its membership, emphasizing the efforts and successes of ASOR’s women members working in Near Eastern archaeology. This “Women of ASOR” resource map is just the beginning; our next project will be to expand our map to include our entire membership base. In an earlier stage of development, this digital resource was presented at the 2012 ASOR Annual Meeting during the session “Women in Near Eastern Archaeology: An Open Forum,” chaired by Beth Alpert Nakhai.

| The Archaeology of the Holy Lands Webinar Series |

There is still time to sign up for ASOR's new webinar series that begins this December. The first webinar begins December 8th and is entitled Jerusalem in the Time of David and Solomon. Jerusalem was the capital of a large monarchic state, as described in the Hebrew Bible, in the tenth century BCE, right? Actually, not everyone accepts this. Experts interpret the archaeological data in conflicting ways. This webinar will explore the controversies swirling around the role of Jerusalem at the beginning of the monarchic era. It will consider the relationship of archaeological discoveries to the biblical narratives about the most famous biblical kings, David and Solomon. Read more... |

| Thirteenth Annual Sean W. Dever Memorial Prize - 2014 |

The William F. Albright Institute of Archaeological Research in Jerusalem announces the 2014 Sean W. Dever Memorial Prize call for papers. This prize provides $650 for the best published article or paper presented at a conference by a Ph.D. candidate in Syro-Palestinian or biblical archaeology. Authors may be of any nationality but the article or paper must be in English. Co-written or co-presented pieces may be submitted if all the authors or presenters are doctoral candidates, the prize, if awarded, will be divided equally among authors/presenters. Read more... |
