A little about me: I grew up in a large family with five sisters and two brothers. Growing up, I was an active member with 4-H and the Tri-State Young Marines. I always had a passion for storytelling and video. When I was a senior in high school, I won first place in the video category at a state-level competition. LeeAnn Barnes Gordon will begin her appointment at ASOR Manager of Programs and Events on September 16, 2013. LeeAnn will be the primary office contact for support of the ASOR Annual Meeting and the Program Committee. While LeeAnn is new to the ASOR staff, she is not new to ASOR. October 13, 2013: Jerusalem in the Time of David and Solomon
The series begins this October. Jerusalem was the capital of a large monarchic state, as described in the Hebrew Bible, in the tenth century BCE, right? Actually, not everyone accepts this. Experts interpret the archaeological data in conflicting ways. This webinar will explore the controversies swirling around the role of Jerusalem at the beginning of the monarchic era. It will consider the relationship of archaeological discoveries to the biblical narratives about the most famous biblical kings, David and Solomon. Read more... |

| ASORtv Launches on YouTube |
Now on YouTube, the Americans Schools of Oriental Research presents ASORtv.
As resource of Friends of ASOR, ASORtv will host a wide array of archaeological videos. Videos will range from interviews with fellowship recipients, to previews of lectures, to the ASORtv original series “Ask An Archaeologist”. The fellowship and grant recipient interviews chronicle the experiences of recipients at their dig sites abroad. ASOR offers several grants and fellowships support for excavations and for participation in the ASOR Annual Meeting. Through our affiliated overseas research centers (ACOR, AIAR, and CAARI), financial support is provided for research in Cyprus, Jerusalem, and Jordan. Read more... |

The ASOR, AIAR, and CAARI boards met in Indianapolis, IN over the weekend of April 19-21, 2013. One of the highlights of the weekend was a gala celebration honoring P. E. MacAllister's service to ASOR on the occasion of his transition from Board Chair to Chairman Emeritus. Previous issues of News@ASOR have covered the celebration, and the present article presents a summary of the action items from the ASOR Executive Committee and Board Meetings. | BASOR Editor Search Extended to September 16 |
|
The Bulletin of the American Schools of BASOR Oriental Research (BASOR), a publication of the American Schools for Oriental Research (ASOR), is seeking an editor for a renewable three-year term beginning July 1, 2014, for six semi-annual issues. BASOR is a peer-reviewed, illustrated publication including technical articles covering the entire Near East and eastern Mediterranean world from the Palaeolithic period through Islamic times. The principal subject areas of the journal include art and archaeology, history, anthropology, bioarchaeology and archaeozoology, archaeometry, geography, philology and epigraphy, and literature.
