2021 Annual Meeting—2 Components
ASOR’s 2021 Annual Meeting will have both in-person and virtual components. The in-person meeting will take place Nov. 17-20, in downtown Chicago. The virtual component will be held Dec. 9-12. There is one registration rate for both components. Meeting safely and providing diverse and inclusive options for participation are our top priorities. Members may request a full or partial scholarship. Learn more about the 2021 dual components, and register today.

ASOR Remembers Arte Joukowsky
Artemis A.W. Joukowsky, a long-time friend and supporter of ASOR, passed away on December 11, 2020 at the age of 89. Arte had strong ties to Near Eastern archaeology, and served as President of the ACOR Board of Trustees for almost 20 years. We share our condolences with the entire Joukowsky family. 2021 Student Stipends—Deadline is February 15
As prospects for fieldwork in 2021 and international travel continue to be impacted by COVID-19, ASOR grants and fellowships will be a little different this year. In lieu of excavation fellowships for students, ASOR will be offering Summer Stipends for students to take part in research that does not require international travel. The deadline for applications is February 15. Read more about applying for ASOR summer stipends here.

2021 Call for Session and Workshop Proposals—Deadline is January 15
ASOR’s 2021 Annual Meeting will be held November 17-20 in Chicago, and will include a second virtual component to be held online December 9-12. ASOR members are invited to submit proposals for either or both components. The brief application form asks for a list of 4 to 6 potential speakers and if the proposed session/workshop will be held in Chicago, online, or both. The deadline to submit proposals is January 15, and ASOR’s 2021 Call for Papers will open on February 15. The application form, deadlines, and other important information are posted on the 2021 Call for Member-Organized Sessions and Workshops.

13 Things ASOR Donors and Members Helped Accomplish in 2020
It has become cliché to say that 2020 has been a year like no other. For ASOR, this has been a year when we expanded our scholarships and services in spite of the challenges (see infographic). While many societies and non-profits are tightening operations, we are expanding our reach and programs. ASOR has not only changed our name and renewed our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion—the Board has made a commitment to operate with an eye on the long-term, and we need your support and help to continue our shared work. 2021 Grants for ASOR Archaeological Projects—Deadline is February 15
For the summer of 2021, ASOR is pleased to support grants to archaeological research projects. We plan to award 3 Harris Grants ($5,000 each) and 1 Seger Grant ($2,500 with a match required). These grants will be made to archaeological projects or to project directors (not for individual research). They are designed to support non-fieldwork research, analysis, and publication. For 2021 only, funds may not be used for research or projects that involve international travel. The application deadline is February 15, 2021. Please email Marta Ostovich (programs@asor.org) with any questions.
Read ARS 27 Edited By Ken Holum
This volume presents the results of the many years of excavation by the Combined Caesarea Expeditions, organized to explore the city and harbor of ancient Caesarea. Holum presents CCE’s original research questions, the overall stratigraphy of the site, and the team’s findings about Caesarea from the Hellenistic period to the end of antiquity in the seventh century CE. In so doing, the volume makes a significant contribution to our understanding of the transition from paganism to Christianity in Late Antiquity. The volume presents the archaeological evidence for this transition, paying careful attention to the foundations of the temple and church, fragments of the superstructure of both monumental buildings, the Herodian and Byzantine staircases that rose directly from the harbor to the temple and church, the pottery, coins, and other evidence.
