Herbert Warren Mason Fellowship Established
Established in memory of Herbert W. Mason, a scholar of ancient and medieval Near Eastern texts and contemporary literatures, this fellowship will be awarded biennially to a scholar/poet/writer/artist whose project proposal comes closest in scope to Herbert Mason’s oeuvre. The award of $5,000 may be used to support travel expenditures to special collections, acquire access to rare or hard to find research materials, art illustrations of a proposal, or to further scholarly studies. Board of Trustees Election Results
Thank you to all the ASOR members who voted in this year's Board of Trustees Election! Two Membership-elected trustees and two Institutionally-elected trustees have been selected to serve 3-year terms. Each year at the Annual Meeting, ASOR recognizes individuals who have performed outstanding service for the organization, those who have published exceptional academic work, and those who made significant contributions to our field. Join Us For Week 2 of the Virtual Annual Meeting
Thank you to everyone who joined us for week one of the Virtual Annual Meeting. ASOR welcomed over 300 attendees from 15 countries for our live Plenary Address and Members’ Meeting. Recordings will be posted for attendees to watch at their leisure. The four days of live workshops, poster presentations, and discussions of papers, covered a wide range of topics such as Cultural Heritage, Gender in the Ancient Near East, Ancient Inscriptions, and Archaeology and Video Games. There is still time to join us for Week 2, beginning on Thursday, November 19 at 11:00am EST. Register now to gain access to over 400 paper, workshop, and poster presentations by scholars from 25 countries for less than 25¢ a presentation.

Remember, all registrants will be able to view the recorded material through June 2021. Non-member registrations include a complimentary, one-year ASOR Associate Membership ($40 value) with a subscription to Near Eastern Archaeology

Live sessions will take place on Thursday–Sunday, November 19–22. The schedule includes both live and pre-recorded presentations to encourage discussion, collaboration and Q&A. Read more about some of the wide range of presenters, or register now.

ASOR Session Chair Openings
ASOR invites applications from members to fill Session Chair openings for the following ASOR Standing Sessions: Archaeology and Biblical Studies; Archaeology of Cyprus; Archaeology of Iran; Archaeology of Islamic Society; and Archaeology of the Near East: Bronze and Iron Ages. Session Chairs volunteer to serve one term (three years, 2021-2023) with the possibility of renewing for a second term. The application is simple and can be completed online here. Eric Meyers: "Early Synagogues, Jesus, and Galilee—A Jewish Perspective" on Dec. 13
Register now for our next FOA Webinar on December 13 at 7:30pm EST, featuring Dr. Eric Meyers and "Early Synagogues, Jesus, and Galilee—A Jewish Perspective." An expert in Judaic studies, Dr. Meyers will discuss how archaeological work in Galilee over the past generation and a half has demonstrated that this region was overwhelmingly Jewish in the first century BCE and CE. In this lecture, Prof. Eric Meyers will take us on a journey across the Holy Land to discover how Judaism, and its places of worship, have evolved over the centuries. Register and pay here. Price is $5 for ASOR members and $10 for non-members. All proceeds will help ASOR respond to COVID-19 by funding membership scholarships and online resources.

Apply for a Mesopotamian Fellowship
ASOR is now accepting applications for 2021 Mesopotamian Fellowships! These fellowships offer up to $9,000 in support for research on Mesopotamian civilization. The deadline for the first round of applications is November 30th. Guidelines and application information can be found here.

SCS Frank M. Snowden Jr. Undergraduate Scholarships
ASOR is pleased to share this scholarship opportunity from the Society for Classical Studies. These scholarships (formerly the Undergraduate Minority Scholarships in Classics and Classical Archaeology) provide funding for undergraduate students from historically under-represented groups across North America. The scholarships will be awarded for Summer 2021. Guidelines and application information can be found here.
