The ASOR Archives recently launched an online exhibit showcasing materials from the Nelson Glueck collections. The online exhibit was made possible thanks to generous grants from the David Berg Foundation and the Lanier Theological Library as well as other donors and foundations. Read Glueck’s pre- and post-WWII journals and correspondence, and browse an image gallery of photos he took during his many expeditions into the desert, where he identified hundreds of sites. | ASOR Survives the Storm |
This winter has been an eventful one. In Boston, where our main office is located, we’ve seen more than 100 inches of snow. Only 5.8 inches shy of the all-time record of 107.8 inches that fell in 1995-96! This is the snowiest month on record, the snowiest February, and the second snowiest winter in recorded history. With only a few weeks left till spring, we may still break that record—not that anyone in our office is hoping for that. We’re all ready for warmer weather. Read more... |

| Society for Ancient Mediterranean Religions: Call for Papers |
The Society for Ancient Mediterranean Religions is hosting Religion on the Ground: A SAMR Conference in Conjunction with the 2015 IAHR in Erfurt, Germany on August 22, 2015. A major development in the study of ancient religion over the past few decades has been the growing emphasis on the social, material, and experiential realities of non-elites. This development has affected both the sorts of questions scholars are asking, and the sorts of data on which they draw to formulate their answers. Rather than focusing on the philosophical or theological concerns of elite texts, scholars have sought to bring a wider body of evidence to bear on understanding and interpreting the lived experience of religion. The deadline for submission of abstracts is April 3, 2015. For more information, click here. |
